MILWAUKEE IS ON TOP OF THE BASEBALL WORLD.
The Milwaukee Brewers are World Series champions for the first time. After letting a chance to sweep slip away in extra innings the night before, Milwaukee returned to Tropicana Field on October 28 and finished the job.
The Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4–1 in Game 5, winning the series four games to one. Jacob “The Miz” Misiorowski set the tone, William Contreras capped an MVP performance, and the Brewers delivered the championship their fans had waited generations to see.
THE MIZ ANSWERS THE CALL
With the Rays trying to extend the series and send it back to Milwaukee, the Brewers handed the ball to their ace. Misiorowski responded with 5⅔ scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk, with two strikeouts, before leaving with a right calf cramp.
His biggest test came in the fourth. Tampa Bay put runners on second and third with two outs, but Misiorowski retired Ben Williamson on a ground ball to preserve the lead. He followed with a clean fifth inning, ending it with a strikeout of Yandy Díaz and an emphatic fist pump.
Milwaukee’s bullpen took over after his departure. The Rays finally broke through in the ninth, but Trevor Megill got Richie Palacios to ground out for the final out. The celebration was on.
MILWAUKEE BUILDS ITS LEAD
Cooper Pratt opened the scoring with an RBI single in the second inning. David Hamilton added another RBI single in the fifth, giving the Brewers a 2–0 advantage.
Then Contreras delivered one more big swing. After Christian Yelich was hit by a pitch in the sixth, Contreras drove him home with an RBI double. Pratt followed with a sacrifice fly, pushing the lead to 4–0.
Tampa Bay scored once in the ninth, but Milwaukee’s early work and Misiorowski’s start proved too much to overcome.
WILLIAM CONTRERAS: MVP ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL
Contreras earned World Series MVP honors with the kind of all-around impact that defined Milwaukee’s run. He hit .381 in the World Series, delivered an RBI double in the clincher and guided the pitching staff. In the first World Series using the automated ball-strike challenge system, he won 10 of 13 appeals.
For the full 2026 postseason, Contreras hit .383, going 18-for-47 with three home runs, eight RBIs and a 1.059 OPS.
His defense mattered just as much. In Game 1 alone, Contreras threw out two Rays attempting to steal, ending both innings. Victor Mesa Jr. was caught trying to take third in the fifth, and Jonathan Aranda was retired at second in the sixth. Tampa Bay had been 11-for-11 on stolen-base attempts that postseason before running into Contreras.
Through the first four games of the series, he had caught three Rays stealing in seven attempts. Those outs helped limit a Tampa Bay team that relies on speed to create pressure.
HOW THE SERIES UNFOLDED
Game 1: Brewers 3, Rays 2. Milwaukee survived a tense ninth inning, with Megill striking out Jonny DeLuca after a replay reversal kept the game alive.
Game 2: Brewers 5, Rays 4. Tampa Bay jumped ahead 4–0, but Milwaukee came back. Sal Frelick tied it with a home run, and Pratt delivered the go-ahead RBI.
Game 3: Brewers 10, Rays 1. Milwaukee erupted for eight runs in the fifth inning. Robert Gasser held the Rays scoreless over six innings.
Game 4: Rays 4, Brewers 3, 12 innings. Tampa Bay rallied in the bottom of the 12th, with Ben Williamson’s walk-off single preventing the sweep.
Game 5: Brewers 4, Rays 1. Misiorowski dominated, Contreras and Pratt drove in key runs, and Milwaukee claimed the title.
The Rays showed resilience to extend the series, but the Brewers answered the disappointment of Game 4 with a composed performance in Game 5.
FOR BOB UECKER
This championship belongs to the players, coaches, organization and fans who lived every pitch of this run. It also belongs to the memory of Bob Uecker, the unmistakable voice who shared Brewers baseball with generations of Milwaukee fans.
Uecker brought humor, warmth and character to the broadcast booth. Through difficult seasons and unforgettable summers, he made listening to the Brewers feel like spending time with a friend.
He isn’t here to call the final out, but his voice remains part of the fabric of this franchise. For the fans who grew up listening to him, it’s hard to imagine a Brewers championship without thinking of Mr. Baseball.
The wait is over, Milwaukee. The Brewers are World Series champions. 🏆⚾
